The town of Homburg gets its name from the Hohenberg Castle which was mentioned for the first time in 1500. In 1528, the town was also referred to as Homburg vor der Höhe. It then became common to refer to the town as Bad Homburg with the introduction of the thermal baths.

Saalburg Roman Fort
The Saalburg was a castle that served as the surveillance point for a Limes section in Taunus during the Roman Age. The first structure on the Saalburg Pass was built in the year 83 BCE. Romantic Christmas Market at the Castle
1st to 21st December 2025 (every weekend during Advent)
The "Romantic Christmas Market" is the main attraction of the Bad Homburg Christmas Town. It is held in front of the venerable buildings of the Landgraves' Castle. Around 90 wooden chalets stretch in a row from the Schlossplatz square along Herrengasse to the upper Schlosshof courtyard. The "Romantic Christmas Market" is open Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday&Sunday from 12 midday to 9 p.m.
