And of course every visitor to Cologne must have seen the Cathedral from up close. In addition to this, there are alternatives for every taste: How about a visit to a museum, a peek behind the scenes of the German television channel WDR, a barbeque afternoon or a visit to the zoo?

ChocolateMuseum

The museum takes the visitor along on a journey through the 3,000 year old cultural history of chocolate. Visitors can actually experience the tropical climate in a walk-in tropical greenhouse. Thehigh pointof the museum is the main attraction: the production. From two levels, visitors can see how bar chocolate, truffles and hollow figures are made. After this, you can nibble away at a chocolate well spring.

Phantasialand

From an old-style merry-go-round to "Feng Ju Palace", "Galaxy", "River Quest" and "Temple of the Nighthawk" ‒ Phantasialand has something for everyone.

City tours for children with "touching" and "running around", such as "Roman tours". For children from 6 to 10 years old, adult accompaniment is -*necessary, fixed timings will be known shortly. The tours are organised in the old city of Cologne.

The carnival season takes place predominantly between the New Year and Ash Wednesday. However, carnival revellers celebrate the start of the carnival season on the 11th day of the 11th month bang on 11.11 a.m.

From Women's Carnival Day ("Weiberfastnacht") the Thursday before Rose Monday until Carnival Tuesday, an established routine of gatherings, balls and processions rolls by, and halls, pubs and bars ring out with the sound of celebrations, singing and dancing. Throughout Cologne, normal everyday life is suspended during this time and many institutions are closed.
