Maritim Strandhotel Travemünde

The Maritim Strandhotel Travemünde chose to collaborate with the Landschaftspflegeverein Dummersdorfer Ufer e.V. as part of the ProTomorrow initiative. During stays of several nights, guests can decide each day whether they would like their room to be cleaned. For every room cleaning service not used, the hotel allocates funds, based on a predefined calculation model, to a selected local project.

The donations were used for:

• Developing and restructuring the flock of sheep and goats
  The flock is the principal means of maintaining the extensive protected landscapes at Dummersdorfer Ufer and on the Priwall peninsula.
• Healthcare for the large flock of sheep
  The funding enabled the purchase of specialist equipment that makes hoof care considerably easier.
• Repairs following the storm surge of 20 and 21 October 2023 on the Baltic Sea coast
  Along the beach and dune belt between the Priwall peninsula and the mouth of the Harkenbäk near Barendorf, destroyed fences had to be replaced or, where possible, repaired over a distance of several hundred metres. Debris and material washed ashore also had to be removed.
• Protecting the breeding grounds of lapwings and other meadow birds
  Effective, mobile fencing was installed in the Südlicher Priwall nature reserve to protect the birds from foxes, wild boar and other animals.
• Constructing an observation hide on the large bird meadow in the Südlicher Priwall nature reserve
  The hide is not open to the public and is used for scientific observation of the bird meadow. Ornithologists can now enjoy an excellent view of the 33-hectare site, which serves as a breeding ground for lapwings and other bird species.

The Maritim Strandhotel Travemünde is certified according to the GreenSign Hotel Standard.

As part of the certification process, an independent certification body reviews documented evidence and conducts an on-site audit to determine whether the hotel meets the requirements of the GreenSign Hotel Standard. The assessment covers areas including environmental management, energy and water consumption, waste management, social responsibility and regional sourcing. 

The audit report documents the assessment and provides recommendations for further development.
